“Positive Change”

District Governor Melba Fujiura
Sunnyside Lions Club

Res: 208.743.1480
e-mail: DG Melba

I grew up on the Farm-in-a-Day in Moses Lake. Growing up, I participated in 4-H, showing dairy cattle at the county fair, was a Dairy Princess, played violin in the school orchestra and acted in high school productions. My first memory of Lions was hearing the cries of “Lion Burger!” at the county fair in Moses Lake. Not knowing then that I would later become a Lion.

I graduated high school in 1972 and went on the attend WSU (Go Cougs!) earning a BS in 1976.

WSU is where I met my husband, Ray. After college I worked in advertising in Spokane, marrying Ray in 1978. We have lived in Richland, Walla Walla, Moses Lake, and finally settled in Sunnyside in 1991. I have worked in radio (both advertising and announcing), retail, medical records, and as a school secretary.

Currently, I am primary care giver for my mother-in-law, and manager of Ray and my enterprise, MelbaLynn Barbecue Rubs.

I am a trustee for the Yakima Valley Libraries, as well as a commissioner for the Sunnyside Housing Authority.

I joined the Sunnyside Lions Club in 1999 because I wanted to be involved in an organization that made a difference, not just have meetings. And we do make a difference, all Lions. I am proud to say we are helping our communities, and our world.

International President Brandel’s theme is “Miracles Through Service.” We are part of miracles every day; providing sight, building homes, preventing blindness, making a children smile, affordable hearing aids, and creating parks and playgrounds.

Let’s remember to tell the world whenever we do these things. Public recognition is a great membership tool. When people see what we do, they will want to join the excitement and fun.

I am proud to serve you this Lions year.
